AJAC announces finalists of Canadian Car of the Year Awards

Twelve vehicles have officially been announced as the finalists for the 2024 Canadian Car of the Year Awards (CCOTY), which are annually presented by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).

This year’s format sees the awards broken down into four categories: Canadian Car of the Year, Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, Canadian Electric Car of the Year, and Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year.

“We are thrilled to have Canadian Electric Car of the Year and Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year categories joining the established Canadian Car of the Year and Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year awards,” said Jason Campbell, General Manager Canadian International AutoShow, in a statement.

He later added his congratulations to all the finalists, and “we look forward to hearing the results on media day.”

The finalists are as follows: in the first category, 2024 Canadian Car of the Year, is the Acura Integra Type S, Honda Accord, and Toyota Prius.

In the second category, 2024 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, it is the Genesis GV70, Mazda CX-90, and Toyota Grand Highlander.

In the third, 2024 Canadian Electric Car of the Year, it is the Genesis Electrified G80, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Toyota Prius Prime.

And in the fourth, 2024 Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year, the finalists are the Genesis Electrified GV70, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV9.

The actual winners will be announced on Feb. 15, 2024, at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto, Ont. And according to Campbell, the four winning vehicles will remain at the show for attendees to see in-person.
