Next up, Mazda announces adoption of NACS

Mazda is now the latest automotive manufacturer to announce that it will adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for charging ports on the Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) that it plans to launch in North America as of 2025.

In a news release, the company said it had reached an agreement with Tesla. As with other OEMs, adopting the NACS provides automotive customers with a broader range of charging options.

“This addition will provide Mazda BEV customers with greater charging convenience through access to more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America,” said the OEM. It also said that it will continue to follow its “Joy of Driving” concept under its core value, “Human Centric.”

Other OEMs that released a press release stating they would adopt the NACS include Honda, General Motors, Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis. Electrify America will also do the same, as will ZEROVA (for Canadian and U.S. electric vehicle charging stations).

It is also worth noting that Honda agreed to establish a joint venture among seven automakers (the others being General Motors, BMW Group, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, and Stellantis NV) to build a “high-powered charging network for EVs with the aim of building a reliable charging infrastructure.”
