The federal government is funding 133 new electric vehicle chargers in Ottawa, Ont., as part of its plan to build a coast-to-coast network of charging stations in Canada.
The funding will go towards 25 Level 2 EV chargers across workplaces in the City of Ottawa, along with 45 Level 2 EV chargers in Hydro Ottawa Limited workplaces. And the multi-unit residential building Ottawa Carleton Standard Condominium Corporation 947 will get 63 Level 2 EV chargers.
“Investments like these are helping families in Ottawa and across the country to make the switch, helping to save on fuel at the pump while ensuring clean air for our kids,” said Mona Fortier, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier, who announced the funding on behalf of the Minister of Natural Resources.
The federal government’s coast-to-coast project includes installing chargers along highways, in public places, on-street, in multi-use residential buildings, and at workplaces. Ottawa’s new EV chargers will be available for use by March 31, 2025.
The announcement represents a combined federal investment of more than $500,000, provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program. Additional funding was also provided by organizations, bringing the overall total costs of the project to more than $1.6 million.
