Electrify Canada announced a new pricing structure on Dec. 6, 2023, that will feature kilowatt-hour-based pricing at charging stations across the country set to take effect on Jan. 9, 2024.
The company said in a news release that energy-based rates, along with station-specific pricing, will help simplify the electric vehicle charging experience for EV drivers. The thinking here is that the new kWh pricing will provide consumers using Electrify Canada’s public DC fast charging network with a more fair and transparent experience.
“Electric vehicle owners like the transparency of kilowatt-hour pricing — letting them pay for the amount of energy used to charge their EVs,” said Robert Barrosa, President and CEO of Electrify Canada and Electrify America, in a statement. “We’re pleased to be able to offer a simpler and fairer billing structure to EV drivers across the Electrify Canada network.”
The transition will see rates vary by location as the company shifts to its new kWh pricing structure. Those rates will reflect local market influences. However, Electrify Canada said its customers will still be able to save 20 per cent on charging (excluding idle fees) across its network. But they will first need to sign up for a Pass+ membership.
