Canadian-made EV takes center stage at Canadian International AutoShow

The Canadian International AutoShow (CIAS) will be jam packed with exciting exhibitions and events for all types of auto enthusiasts, but there’s one uniquely impressive Canadian accomplishment: the Project Arrow Canadian-made zero-emissions concept vehicle, the creation of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA).

“In 2019, the Prime Minister dared us to imagine Canada’s net zero mobility future,” said Flavio Volpe, APMA President. “Through the generous support of partners like FedDev Ontario, we were able to prove that Canada can offer a complete, globally relevant mobility solution to the world.”

Volpe presented the cars to auto journalists at the opening of Media Day at the show, and thanked politicians and suppliers for helping bring the vision to life.

Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, visited CIAS, and joined ministers and manufacturers to celebrate the Canadian unveiling of Project Arrow, which previously received an over $5-million FedDev Ontario investment.

Also joining Volpe were Hon. François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, who Volpe described as a fantastic salesperson for Canadian technology, and the Hon. Vic Fedeli, Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, who Volpe says supported the project in its earliest days.

The APMA chose CIAS to introduce the Project Arrow concept car to Canada because the AutoShow has been the largest national celebration of the automobile industry for 50 years, welcoming more than 330,000 visitors annually. As the show returns from a two-year hiatus, it is bringing together manufacturers, part suppliers, auto enthusiasts and experts who will take what they learn to drive forward the future of mobility.

“Project Arrow is a great example of collaboration and Canadian excellence,” said Minister Tassi. “APMA delivered on this challenge to show the world what Canada can achieve by bringing together over 50 Canadian manufacturers to build this incredible concept vehicle. It will now be available for the automobile sector to study and connect with the companies that built it.”

The 50th annual Canadian International AutoShow features more than 650,000 square feet of exhibits, displays and attractions spanning the North and South Buildings of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The Canadian International AutoShow is not only the largest automotive expo in Canada, it is also the country’s largest consumer show.
